A Raven in the Shadows

Character

Breac Allen appears to be nothing more than an observer, and even then only to those who know that he exists at all, as he doesn't interfere in supernatural or natural conflicts. Wereravens are not at all a common sight, even among the supernatural. Like most of his kind he has remained out of sight, and out of mind. What are Breac and his kin up to? Even time may never tell...

Personality[]

Breac is a grim individual, prone to brooding, and prefers to keep to himself. He is loyal to his family and his code. He performs every mission he is assigned with discipline and diligence.

SKILLS[]

ATHLETICS[]

Expert

Breac has been physically active his entire life and is in excellent shape. On a daily basis he flies, runs, or walks to various locations. He is skilled at climbing and navigating difficult terrain. He is able to maneuver while on top of buildings, skyscrapers, and other tall structures without falling. His balance is catlike.

BEING A WERERAVEN[]

Competent

Breac has been a wereraven for two decades, however he isn't at the peak of his power, or his ability. He has powerful instincts and knows how to use his powers with great skill. But he's no elder and he's no master of the raven blood. One day he may be, one day he make reach the peak of his power.

ESPIONAGE[]

Expert

Breac is capable of gathering information by many means, from observing his targets from a position of stealth, to blending in plain sight. At times he utilizes disguises and false identities to gain access to restricted areas, or to view restricted information. This training also extends to being able to corrupt, or destroy information, hack into computers, or otherwise engage in sabotage of various sorts.

LORE[]

Competent

Breac is aware of the existence of many supernatural beings. He knows how to deal with them, or fight them if he must, however he is not a loremaster. He would not know where they come from or necessarily what the inner workings of their societies involve.

NINJUTSU[]

Expert

Breac was trained in Togakure-ryu, a very old Shinobi tradition, which is practiced by his family and extended family. This martial art accounts for much of his stealth skill and other abilities, however it is also a combat skill, particularly utilizing guerilla and assassination tactics rather than fighting an enemy toe to toe. He is capable of fighting an enemy head on but it is not his strong suit. Breac will likely flee if he is faced with a stronger opponent and fails to take them by surprise. From the shadows Breac is a terror.

STEALTH[]

Expert

Breac is a master of stealth and remaining unseen. He was trained from birth in such arts and utilizes these skills on a daily and nightly basis.

WEAPONRY[]

Expert

Breac is highly trained in the use of bladed weaponry and firearms.

POWERS[]

AGILITY/SPEED[]

Supernatural

Breac's speed and agility is where his kind truly stand out. Breac possesses supernatural level agility and speed while in his raven form and humanoid man-raven form. As a result his reflexes and speed allowing for agility up to many times that of human norms, allowing Breac to catch bullets with an effort and perform physical feats that seem to defy physics. This also allows for exceptional running speed and reflexes, up to fifty times human norms. When he is moving at his fastest, he is more than a blur, and moves so fast that some may not even know he passed by. This is not teleportation however, and as such there are likely beings with abilities allowing them to still see him moving. This power also assists in combat, enabling him to strike and block attacks with great ease unless his opponent also possesses the same level of agility, or is simply "THAT good." When striking from the shadows this speed is HIGHLY useful. In human form Breac possesses enhanced level speed, requiring him to shift in order to gain access to his most powerful abilities.

NATURAL WEAPONRY[]

Enhanced

Breac possesses talons, and a sharp beak in both raven, and man-raven form. Breac is able to shapeshift his hands into talons while in human form without shifting completely. These talons and his beak are enhanced level natural weapons as defined by the rules.

SENSES[]

Enhanced

As a wereraven Breac possesses enhanced level hearing, smell, and sight in all forms.

SHAPESHIFTING[]

Enhanced

Breac has three forms: Human, raven, and man-raven. The man-raven form is essentially a humanoid raven capable of flight, with long arms, and grasping hands extending from the bottom of his wings, allowing him to manipulate objects as he would in human form. In addition to being able to completely change forms however, Breac can shapeshift his hands into talons while in human form, giving him access to natural weaponry without having to completely shift.

SLOW AGING[]

Basic

Breac ages slower than humans do. He will look a decade or more younger than he actually is. His aging will slow down more as he gets older, so he will be around middle aged when he is 80 to 90 years old. His lifespan is more than double the average human. He will likely live to be around 170 to 180 years old. Some in his family have reached as old as 205.

SPIRITUALISM[]

Basic

Summon a minor spirit or interact with ghosts without great effort. With use of specific ritual or focus, summon and contain an average strength spirit. Exorcise minor spirits without a ritual. In Breac's case this requires him to consume an eye from the body of the person whose spirit he wants to communicate with, and perform a summoning ritual. No eye? No communication! This will look outlandish to some, but Breac does not eat eyes for kicks. He's not a cannibal and he's definitely not evil.

WERERAVEN PHYSIQUE[]

Enhanced

As a wereraven Breac possesses enhanced level strength, durability, and regeneration as defined by the rules. The top end of his abilities however are not available unless he is in his man-raven form. In human form his physical abilities would however still be on the lower end of "enhanced".

ADVANTAGES[]

FAKE IDS[]

Breac possesses various fake IDs which allow him to impersonate law enforcement, federal agents, and other officials.

FAMILY[]

Breac's family is small, each wereraven operating independently to cover up traces of the supernatural. While there are large organizations and other supernaturals already dedicated to this effort, Breac's family fears more for it's own survival than it does the stability of the world. As such the family is hardly altruistic in it's efforts. The family is small and does not have endless resources to draw upon. Any assistance given to operatives will be information or small funding, perhaps up to $500 per month for living expenses. The family does not have anywhere close to the influence or power projection ability of large organizations. They cannot cover up every supernatural "leak" or be everywhere at once. The wereravens are fewer in number than werewolves and as such are even rarer. It is safe to say that their efforts are hardly needed and that they are more dependent on more powerful entities to take up the same cause.

NO BLOODLUST[]

As a wereraven Breac does not suffer from the rage and bloodlust that many other werebeasts deal with. (See Lunar Cycle weakness to see what happens to him on the full moon)

SNIPER RIFLE[]

Breac does not engage in combat very often, but when he does he prefers to attack from a distance using his M24 sniper rifle.

WILLPOWER[]

Breac has seen much in his lifetime and has endured much. He has stronger willpower than most and is able to endure mental anguish that would break the average person. He is also harder to influence or manipulate due to his training. He is not immune to mind control powers however, although he is able to resist them longer than many others would. He is also very resistant to torture. It is likely that only demons or other highly sadistic supernatural beings would have the power to coerce information from him via torture. Breac has been trained against most torture techniques used by humans.

WEAKNESSES[]

CODE[]

Breac is a highly trained operative, however he is not a Champion of the powers, he is not a Slayer, and he certainly is not a hunter. Breac's job is to keep as many humans from finding out about the supernatural world as possible. As such he may simply watch as a fight between good and evil plays out even though he could have joined in. He is the clean up crew, the unseen hand making demon bodies mysteriously vanish if they aren't disposed of correctly, cleaning up werewolf blood that spattered on the sidewalk, and the like. He also destroys evidence such as cameras, cell phones, and other documented proof that the supernatural exists, even if he has to break into someone's house, and quietly destroy all of their electronics, or steal a body from the morgue, and burn the autopsy report. The alternative is that humans find out about the paranormal, and all HELL breaks loose. No one wants that. With all of that being said, Breac is not allowed to simply jump in and help the good guys. He has to watch good people get cut down, he has to wait for the battle to end, and then he has to make sure that nothing is left to tip off the humans. For all of his power, his hands are quite tied, he isn't allowed to be on the front lines. He IS allowed to defend himself, although if he's doing his job correctly he won't need to.

GOLD[]

Unlike many shifters, wereravens, at least those of Breac's bloodline, are weak to gold rather than silver. This will throw enemies off guard who expect their silver bullets to stop Breac in his tracks, however those enemies who DO figure out that gold is the bane of Breac's kin gain a huge advantage over him. Gold hurts Breac more than silver hurts other shifters. Gold is not just lethal, it can literally melt the skin and feathers from Breac's body if it is in a liquid form, which is to say gold flakes inside of water, which could be used as a sort of acid. If the gold is solid then it will burn to the touch and the pain will be nearly paralyzing. Wounds caused by gold will not heal nearly as fast as other wounds and will require time to regenerate. Gold is the bane of a wereraven's existence.

LUNAR CYCLE[]

On the night when the moon is fullest, Breac is forced into his man-raven form. Unlike werewolves, and many other werebeasts, Breac is not consumed with blind rage. Instead he is filled with the dying memories of every single person whose eyes he has ever eaten. Their deaths play out in his mind, driving him into a deep depression. The oldest wereravens tend to be very wise and appreciative of life due to this weakness. The effect that this has on each wereraven tends to be different. Breac tends to fly off to a remote location and simply endure.. The special ritual that wereravens use to communicate with the dead requires them to consume an eye of the deceased and this is a practice that is done quite often to gain information. Very few wereravens can say that they have never used the ritual. Breac has used it several times and suffers immensely one night each month.

RITUAL INTERFERENCE[]

As with most werebeasts, Breac is vulnerable to Rowan charms, also known as mountain ash. This is an effective ward and weapon against most strains of werebeasts, whos powers depend upon magic. Certain forms of moonstone can also be utilized via ritual to temporarily suppress shifting.

Breac Allen was born into a very influential Seattle family of wereravens. From birth Breac was trained in the arts of the Shinobi. The family seers foresaw that Breac was born with the changing gift and would one day be a wereraven. Breac was educated in expensive private schools. He spent all of his free time training in the martial arts and other skills he would one day utilize in future missions. His family has ties to Japan. Indeed Breac's maternal great grandfather was from Japan, and that is where the family learned Ninjutsu. The Allens and their other wereraven relatives work day and night to prevent the humans from finding out about the supernatural. This requires missions of stealth, espionage, and sabotage. They have to clean up bodies, destroy evidence, scrub blood off of pavement, whatever it takes to keep evidence of the supernatural away from the public eye. Of course there are humans who know about the paranormal, but they are few and far between. There are plenty of believers out there but as long as they can't prove it, all is well. Very seldom is violence required to complete missions, however a vampire running around screaming from the rooftops that he's a vampire is probably going to get staked, and not necessarily by Breac's family either, which is quite small, and can only do so much in this regard. There are plenty of beings out there who want to stay hidden or who are also dedicated to keeping the supernatural a secret.

The family and their ilk have a few connections throughout the United States, although their power base is in Seattle, Washington. Family members, though few in number, are deployed all over the USA to clean up after various supernatural conflicts. Breac has been assigned to watch the West Coast of the US. This means that he is not always in San Francisco, however the city tends to have a lot of activity, which means that Breac spends quite a bit of time there. Breac has never had much of a social life due to his family's culture, he was encouraged to socialize mostly with family members, keeping outside influences to a minimum. Over the years Breac has watched good people die, being forbidden from intervening in supernatural conflicts. The wereravens are an elusive breed, however the few beings who know of them expect the avians to remain neutral. Their grim duties require them to never takes sides in supernatural wars. Not all beings respect this neutrality however, and wereravens must at times defend themselves.

Breac has completed mission after mission, and it's not always easy. He sometimes dreams about the faces of people who he was not allowed to save. The worst part of his existence however is the fact that once each month, when the moon is fullest, Breac has to relive the death of each person whose eyes he has eaten. Breac consumes the eyes of the dead in order to commune with them for information. This is a powerful ability, however the cost is quite taxing, and some wereravens have been driven insane by it. Breac has a strong will however, and he endures the Memories every month, taking the blows to his mind like a conditioned fighter soaking painful punches. When the full moon passes, Breac takes time to meditate, and gain wisdom, appreciating life, the sun, and the very air he breathes.

Breac has yet to make himself known to the supernatural world, however he has been watching events play out for some time, and is quite aware of some of the plots unfolding. But he's just there to clean up as always and he prefers his custodial work to go unnoticed. Breac's family is overall quite small and their efforts are not as extensive as the large organizations dedicated to this same task. They are not a large family and as such tend to work alone or in groups of two. They also tend to keep to large cities to maximize their effectiveness.
