Vampiric Necromancer

Character

Quote1

I once worshipped a pantheon of gods. I now stand among them.

Quote2
Arvid

Arvid Erlingsson was born in Sweden during a time of political turmoil. He is from a village in the far north, wher ethe old Norse religion was still in existence at the time. The king's army descended upon the village when he was young, and he was sent to Rome, and was raised by the church. As a young man he was attacked and turned into a vampire. His long and colorful life has shaped him into a wise and ancient monster.

Personality[]

Arvid is an evil, demonic undead creature of the night, but he is also a wise, cunning monster, who does not endanger himself needlessly. He has outgrown the constant need to spread chaos. This does not mean that he does not desire it, as his breed is infamous for such dark inclinations, his breed revels in bloodlust, and acts of great evil, but he has learned to resist such cravings if it means his continued survival. He is an elder vampire who looks out primarily for himself, he is fully willing to sell out his own kind in order to be left in peace.

SKILLS[]

COMBAT[]

Novice

Arvid can throw punches, kick enemies, block attacks if they are slower than him. He can throw someone if he can get ahold of them. But this ability is more due to his enhanced physical traits as a vampire, than it is any actual combat training, indeed a skilled fighter is capable of defeating him in combat, even if they are weaker, or slower than him. As an elder he has not fought in many years, he's grown quite rusty, instead turning his gaze to pursuits of the mind.

HISTORY[]

Competent

Arvid has been around for centuries and has watched the great wars and kingdoms. He remembers a great deal of the past.

LANGUAGES[]

Expert

Arvid can speak fluent English, Swedish, Old Norse, Latin, Ancient Greek, Greek, and Italian. This is mostly due to so many occult texts being in languages other than English.

OCCULT LORE[]

Competent

Arvid is aware of many different supernatural creatures and how to kill them. He has not delved very deeply in their origins, or too much into their social structures, but he is aware of most of them that exist, and how to deal with them if he must, but this is no guarantee for success by any means given any encounter. Arvid is also learned in Necromancy.

PLOTTING[]

Expert

Arvid has lived for a very long time. Being an elder vampire means outsmarting one's enemies, always being several steps ahead, and outwitting vampire hunters. Arvid is an expert at intrigue, plotting, setting traps, and the like. This does not mean he cannot be outwitted however.

RESEARCH[]

Expert

Arvid is able to research and uncover lost or forbbiden lore when need be. He has been unearthing dark magic his entire unlife and he has become very adept at it.

POWERS[]

AGILITY[]

Enhanced

Agility up to several times that of human norms, allowing one to catch arrows with moderate effort or dodge bullets with a bit of luck. This also allows for visibly enhanced running speed and reflexes, in Arvid's case twenty times human norms due to his age.

BLOOD OF SUPERNATURALS[]

Enhanced

Arvid's breed is capable of becoming more powerful temporarily by drinking the blood of powerful supernaturals, giving him a powerful adrenaline rush equal to the blood he just drank or a basic increase in power, whichever is better.

ENHANCED SENSES[]

Enhanced

Senses up to the level of an animal, such as the scenting ability of a bloodhound, the hearing of a wolf, or the night vision of an owl.

IMMORTAL[]

Basic

Arvid does not age, he cannot get sick, and he cannot be poisoned, he cannot drown. Most ways mortals die do not frighten him. (See weaknesses for ways to kill him).

NATURAL WEAPONRY[]

Enhanced

Fangs as sharp as a sword.

NECROMANCY[]

Supernatural

Arvid is well versed in necromancy. Most necromantic spells require time, ingredients, and preparation. He can raise the dead in the form of zombies, or raise ghosts to do his bidding. He has the power and knowledge to raise an army of dead, but this would require long preparation, finding enough corpses, or a site with enough dead buried. While a graveyard is ideal, raising an army of dead would cause a lot of attention from the wrong people, likely resulting in his destruction. So this is not something done on a whim (and would no doubt require staff approval.) Instead it is far more likely that he will raise individual servitors for menial tasks. He is also capable of casting rotting or decay spells, causing enemies to wither, and rot. Obviously such powers have their use in combat, but extensive use will drain him of energy, and tire him out. Plenty of spell casters also have ways to block such spells. He can also issue magical commands to most undead beings, however if they are under the control of a necromancer already, this would be -very- difficult to accomplish. Spellcasting has limits, he can be tired out, and powerful spells like raising the dead require time and concentration. Raising zombies in the middle of combat is not going to happen.

STRENGTH[]

Enhanced

Physical strength sufficient to bend and twist metal bars, smash through most non-armored structures, and break through a brick wall with sustained moderate effort. Usually able to push up to a few tons and dead lift a small motor vehicle. Due to his age, Arvid is on the upper scale of enhanced level strength. Essentially all of the above can be accomplished faster and with less effort than those in the lower ranks of "enhanced." But he has not reached supernatural level. His strength also allows him to leap into the air at a great height and jump great distances when necessary, even up to around 100 feet.

TOUGHNESS/REGENERATION[]

Enhanced

Toughness/regeneration sufficient to either shrug off or endure non-lethal wounds from personal-level weaponry (swords, rifles, shotguns) without great loss of ability. Minor wounds heal almost instantly, and even severe wounds heal within a few hours to a few days, usually "off screen."

ADVANTAGES[]

IMMUNE TO MIND READING[]

Arvid's breed of vampire is immune to mind reading.

INTELLIGENCE[]

Arvid is extremely old and his intelligence is far beyond any living human. He can process information and situations at an extremely fast rate, allowing him to react to new situations.

SUPERNATURAL CONTACTS[]

Arvid has contacts in the supernatural world, he hears things about other vampires, their movements, whether a werewolf might be in town. He hears whispers of powerful demons rearing their ugly heads from time to time as well. Such information is of use to certain individuals, and he is willing to part with it in order to save his own undead hide.

WEAKNESSES[]

DECAPITATION[]

Arvid can be destroyed by decapitation.

FIRE[]

Arvid can be destroyed by fire.

HOLINESS[]

Arvid is burned by crosses, bibles, and cannot enter recently concecrated ground without being burned. While he can enter holy ground, he will feel ill at ease.

HOLY WATER[]

Holy Water will burn Arvid.

INVITED IN[]

Like all vampires of his breed, Arvid must be invited into the private homes of humans before he can enter. Once invited in only a magical ritual can revoke that invitation. Public places, the homes of other vampires, demons, or other supernatural beings do not require invitation, and he can enter freely.

REFLECTION[]

Arvid casts no reflection.

STAKES/WOODEN OBJECTS[]

Being staked with a wooden stake, or any wooden object to the heart will kill Arvid.

SUN[]

Like many vampires, Arvid can be destroyed by sunlight.

Section 1[]

Arvid Erlingsson was born in Sweden during a time of political turmoil. He is from a village in the far north, where the old Norse religion was still in existence at the time. Arvid was raised by a farming family who primarily worshipped Thor. He enjoyed his life for the first ten years. Even his arranged marriage was with someone he liked, and he eagerly awaited the day of his marriage when he became a man. But all of this was torn away in one fell swoop, the king's army, full of zeal now that Scandinavia had become primarily Catholic, descended upon the village, slaughtering anyone who refused to convert. This was not so much due to the ruthlessness of the king, or the church for that matter, as it was due to the rumors of witchcraft, and human sacrifice. The soldiers truly believed that they were attacking a sanctum of pure evil. Arvid alone was spared, he was taken to Rome where he was trained as a priest. He resented his new position in life for a long time, praying to the old gods in secret when his teachers believed that he was praying to the Christian God. But he eventually earned his robes as it were, and he was ordained a priest by the age of twenty. For two years he fulfilled his sacred duties, however one night, on his way home from a secret visit to a pub, Arvid was attacked and fed upon by a vampire named Arthur. But rather than kill him, Arthur spared Arvid, turning him into a vampire that very night.

Section 2[]

Arvid's first years as a vampire were spent enjoying his newly found powers, indulging in every excess he could find, and revelling in chaos, death, and bloodlust. He killed countless people and committed unspeakable acts of atrocity. His sire watched from afar most of the time, quite pleased with his fledgling. But the time came for his lessons to begin, for Arthur had every intention of Arvid surviving the nights to come. Arvid was taught about hunters, werewolves, wizards, and other creatures who had the power or skill to kill a vampire, some with greater ease than others. Arvid was impatient at first, restless, lacking in discipline, but in time Arvid learned eagerly. He was still allowed to hunt to his heart's content, as long as he learned each night's lessons successfully. He was taught of his weaknesses, forced to endure them one by one, over and over, short of killing him of course. This immersion into his own weaknesses reminded him that he is not invulnerable, a lesson any vampire must learn if they want to survive for long.

It was sixty years into his unlife when he began to learn necromancy, the manipulation, and command of the dead, and death energy. He largely taught himself, learning ancient Greek, and modern Greek in order to navigate ancient texts dating back to antiquity. He learned slowly, decade after decade. Every so often he would need a break, and he would descend upon the nightlife, indulging in his bloodlust, and desire to commit evil.

Section 3[]

Arvid was taught how to fight in addition to the other lessons learned, and for a time Arvid was a competent fighter. He found himself fighting against hunters, other vampires, and the odd low ranked demon even. But where he truly excelled was in avoiding confrontation when he did not wish to engage a foe. He learned to be many steps ahead, outwitting his enemies, forcing them into traps, or positions where he had the advantage. Of course this along with his preference for the pursuits of the mind meant that his fighting skills would begin to weaken, until his vampire powers alone defined his ability to fight toe to toe. Two centuries would pass in this manner. One day Arthur proclaimed that it was time to leave Rome, for an enemy neither of them could defeat had found her way to the city, and was aware of their presence. He called her a Slayer, a woman imbued with the power to destroy most supernatural beings with ease. They packed their things and embarked. But they did not get far outside of the city walls when this unnamed Slayer found them. His sire was attacked instantly, a battle followed, and Arvid fled. His speed allowed him to put quite a distance between him and the Slayer before she could destroy his sire. But destroy him she did, for Arvid never heard from him again, so it was assumed that the Slayer was the victor. It was the first and last time for centuries that he would see a Slayer, which is no doubt one of the reasons he has survived so long. Arvid fled to Spain, to France, Germany, Denmark, and then to England over the next fifty years. He continued his studies for the most part, being careful when he fed, wisdom slowly replacing whimsical indulgence. He was determined not to meet the fate of his sire.

Section 4[]

Arvid spent the next three centuries in England, collecting vast amounts of lore, building for himself a domain beneath the ground in London. He was never able to learn detailed specifics of the various supernatural creatures, as wizards, and fairies kept their secrets close. But he did learn that he shared the night with many different creatures, even other bloodlines of vampire, each with different traits, weaknesses, and contrasts of power in different areas. He learned of the weaknesses of various supernatural entities so that he could defend against them if need be. He continued to hone his skill and knowledge in necromancy as well. In many ways he was in hiding. Of course enemies would find him periodically and he would either destroy them or outwit them into believing him to be dead, or gone. In this way he outlasted generation after generation, keeping himself shut away, his vampiric powers growing in potency as time went on.

Section 5[]

In the late 1600s, Arvid fled to Ireland to avoid confrontations with a group of vampires moving into London, these were not of his breed, and would surely seek his destruction if he was discovered. He did not know their names, or much about them, except that they were bent on making the whole of England and Scotland theirs. He spent the next two centuries in Ireland much as he did in England. It was there that he turned his first fledgling, a young Irish woman named Liusaidh. In his own twisted way he loved her, to the extent that he nearly felt that he could stay with her forever. He sought to teach her all that he had learned, however she was even more headstrong than he was at her age, and she eventually ran away after six years. Arvid did not chase her, he let her go, considering her to be a failure, a mistake. Arvid then took ship to America where he thought to escape the ingrigues, and dangers of Europe, however he did not realize that America was in many ways even more dangerous.

Section 6[]

Arvid landed in New York city, it was then the 1800s, the dawn of industry, and opportunity. Arvid was able to survive in the city, keeping a low profile, feeding carefully. The desire to commit evil acts gnawed on him nightly, so much that he ended up slaughtering an entire household in the most gruesome, careful methods possible. This moment of weakness alerted local vampire hunters to his presence, forcing Arvid to flee New York, and head west. For several years he remained on the move, carrying only his personal grimoires as belongings. By the late 1800s Arvid found himself in California, it was the era of the Gold Rush, and people from all over were heading in that direction. There was no shortage of blood to be certain. He was able to find and attack a rather fortunate, yet unfortunate prospector who had mined quite a bit of gold, and was on his way to what he believed to be a new life of fortune. Arvid confiscated the gold, drained the miner of blood, and head north to Oregon, building a house, and establishing a domain there. Beneath the house is his inner sanctum where he practices magic, but he is able to pose as a wealthy man, albeit a recluse. He has kept to himself for the past century or so, and has remained in Oregon. So far he has not encountered much opposition due to remaining in such a small town. Other than Liusaidh, he has not sired anyone else, preferring a life of solitude, and the pursuit of power. To this day he does not know the fate of his long lost neonate. But with arrival of several powerful beings in San Francisco, and Beacon Hills, potential adversaries were not, and are not far away. Arvid has taken to selling information about other vampires in exchange for being left alone, also providing other information as need be. This is not always a seemless process, and there are times when the information must be beaten out of him. But Arvid is a survivor. To this day he has remained in Oregon, staying out of the Champion's way, and his companions.
