Angel fights some fledglings, then chats with Elena for a while. They later meet up with Eva. Angel realizes his overprotectiveness of those around him has gone too far.

Haight Caritas San Francisco

Haight[]

The Haight echoes a few images of the bygone 1960s hippie culture, still famous more than a generation later. Lingering traces of that flower-power yet remain, though they all tend to be for sale these days. Incense, tie-dye, and varied other eclectic knick-knacks are available for prices that range from the cheap to the extravagant at Smoke shops and Eastern-influenced outlets bearing names like Dreams of Kathmandu, Pipe Dreams, and The Love of Ganesha. Exclusive boutiques, high-end vintage clothing shops, second-hand stores, Internet cafes, and hip restaurants have all settled in, making the Haight as much a major commercial area as it was once the epicenter of peace and love.

The Upper Haight, which stretches from Stanyan to Masonic, is more the shopping zone. The Lower Haight, roughly Divisidero to Webster, has an alternate nightlife with bars like Noc Noc and Mad Dog and popular clubs The Top and Nickie's. In recent years, this area has become popular among DJ's and ravers; it seems that even if the scene has changed, the Haight still has an edge of counterculture to offer.

The setting sun lights up the cloudy sky with brilliant color.

In summer, nighttime temperatures approach an average of 50?F. Plants and flowers are in full bloom thanks to the warm summer weather. It's overcast and warm.

Night at the Haight. Lots of clubs and parties and things to be going on. It's still summer so they are really rocking, even if it is a Sunday night. The crowd is a bit younger this time and people are letting their hair down. It also has been a bit of a hunting ground for a few vamps that Angel's been tracking. A group of about 4 young ones that have been taking advantage of the young and dumb. They are far from original and far from smart. They just got a group of three friends out of a club into the car park behind and dont' even see Angel watching from the rooftop. He knows when they are about to attack and the group picked a good spot to strike. THere's only two real ways out. One is the back door of the club which is blocked by one. And the other is the narrow delivery alley that leads to a noisy street. They just went game face and one of the girls a young blond starts to scream.

Well. Angel is, first and foremost, the guardian of those who can't protect themselves. So when the girl screams at her attacker...the attacker is very shortly not there anymore. Angel tells the girls, "Get out of here..." And then the tall dark brooding vampire moves to engage the other two...well, they might recognize him. They may not. But his breed of vampire does tend to be able to recognize their own kind. Even if they don't know who he is, they'll likely know what he is.

"What the?!" Vamp 1 shoves his meal to the side at Angel's arrival. He doesn't know who Angel is though as he gets ready to fight. His buddy #2 circles to flank Angel as they both go in at once. It is the lats vampire who watches the meal run away and then looks at the big guy who dares take them on. "Oh crap! That's Angel!" He's got the fartherest to go for the way out and the girls are click-clacking in their heels down the alley quick to leave. He goes to grab a bit of trash to throw at Angel just to try and get an opening to run.

The clicking of heels is good enough for Angel, who now proceed to work on dispatching these two. The sidestep of the projectile is a beautiful example of economy of motion. He wastes little movement on it, looking as though he'd calmly stepped out of the way of something that turned out to miss by no more then an inch or two. But then, an inch or two is all it had to miss by. With a new vamps on either side, he moves to engage #1. He launches a feint low with his left fist, and when the vamp goes to defend, he'll shove the stake towards his heart. Aware that #2 will try to attack from behind, he lashes back with a foot in an economical kick at the incoming vamp's knee. That'll prevent him from going anywhere, if it connects.

All #3 wants was an opening so he can run away. As Angel is tangling with the other two he sees about getting around the area and toward the opening of the alley. #1 Turns into dust after falling for the feint, and #2 falls back against a bunch of trash with a yell of pain. "Oh I'll bash your fangs in for that!" Grabing at a bottle to try and give himself a 'knife' to swing and slash wildly at Angel. #3 shakes his head and begins to run for the alley then. It looks like the 3 girls got away at least. But someone is pausing at the mouth of the alley as she hears the sound.

The bottle is something Angel sees coming, almost as if in slow motion. The fledglings here just aren't fast enough to compete with his training. Once again, it's economy of motion, as he lets the bottle miss him by perhaps an inch before driving the stake forward into the unprotected chest. But then, that last one's getting away, and once a vampire manages to get lost in the city, it's difficult to pick them out...

#3 Isn't gone. As the dust from the second vampire settles e can see the back of the last vampire just wher the alley ends and the road starts. He's standing in front of someone. His arm is raising to slap at the girl when jerks suddenly. Then POOF! He also goes into dust. Standing there is Elena with a sigh. She holds that pocket stake she keeps with her. "Hi Angel."

"Thanks. Chasing him down would've been a pain." And he sees she's been improving with that stake. At least enough that she staked #3 before he knew she was there or could take her hostage. "How've you been, Elena?"

Smiling the doppleganger shakes some of the dust off her clothes. "You are welcome, just don't tell Katherine please. I got lucky in being the right place and time." She puts the stake away back into her bag. "I'm holding myself together best I can. How's it been for you?"

Angel has sort of a halfsmile, "Well, I managed to sort things out with Kat. And we're going to...deal with Mikhail. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find Stefan yet. If we do, we'll either snap his neck or vervain him until you can restore him to normal." He at least HOPES Elena will be able to pull the trick, if she's sufficiently well guarded and Stefan is chained up.

Elena Gilbert scowls at the mention of Stefan and not sure how readh she is to talk about that. "W'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Personally if that had been Mik just now, I would have done the same thing I did to that stranger. I'm not happy and don't like this situation. But not sure how much I want to talk on it." She steps back and motions to the street so the pair can walk together and talk. Enjoying the city.

Angel nods once, drops it. "Kat told me I didn't ruin your birthday after all. I thought I'd made her angry enough that she might've kept you in or something." He'd apparently been really worried about that.

Elena Gilbert smiles some. "It was a tense birthday but honestly I'm glad I wasn't at home with the same old stuff and crowd. I needed this change that summer is giving me. And I'm learning a lot." Especially with Katherine. Thinking about that helps bring her smile back. "How did you learn it was my birthday?"

"Last thing Stefan said before he lost it. Seems you are. You haven't been by much lately, but you've definitely been keeping in practice. I guess Kat's been training you too?" She doesn't have anyone else around, as far as he knows, who might be willing and able to teach combat.

Elena Gilbert makes a fake stake motion toward Angel, "Well a girl has to protect herself, right? Especially when I'm not like Faith or Eva," and when your boyfriend goes crazy. But she won't dwell on it. "Kat does ome but we've been working on other things. It's nice having a little quiet home that is pretty safe. I still try to get to the hotel with the girls some about my training."

"Well, I do hope you starting coming back now. I want to make sure you're at least set with the basics before you go back to school in August. Safer that way, considering everyone around you." That time limit's always there, reminding him of when the BH Crowd has to go home for a while.

Elena Gilbert nods her head. "Sure we can set up a time and get back togethr again with the training. It clearly comes in handy," motioning over her shoulder in the vague direction of where four vampires were just dusted. "And I'm not looking forward back to school honestly. I am a senior this year amd should be excited. But I also feel I've gotten past a lot of high school's stuff too. And then there is 'what do I do for college' next."

"Alright. I'll be available this week. Many of your fellow trainees could be by too, like Dawn, or Eva, who just back from a vacation in Hawaii. She dumped Mikhail hard, by the way. Even took the ring back from him. Still...she's probably traumatized on the inside. She could use a friendly ear on top of me or Faith." Or so he figures.

Elena Gilbert has to ask at the mention of her name. "How is Eva? I'm glad she dumpped him and seems done with him. I feel bad for not pushing harder when I warned her about him now, but it seems to have worked out. I will try to meet up with her when I can."

"Well...she might've broken up with him, but finding out the guy she has a crush on is a monster who prefers being one to being the guy you crushed on is still a little traumatizing. She'll be strong, I'm sure, but...it still hurts, even if it's not her fault at all. Cordy may take her shopping, too." Which is always good. Cordy knows her way around shops like nobody else.

Elena Gilbert shakes her had, "I still can't believe his." She cuts herself off and takes a visible calming breath. Lips move as she counts to five silently. "I'll try to be there for her. Think you mentioned Cordy but I haven't met her yet. You got quite the gathering it sounds like."

"Idiocy? Stupidity? Ability to walk away from what is likely to be the only good thing ever to happen to him before Kat and Faith and I all find him?" Or any 2 of the 3, really. But he'll be found alright. Angel grumbles more about the effect it has on Eva then anything else. "Cordy is one of my best friends. She's a little older then you, closer to Faith's age. She's also the public relations person at Angel Investigations." Angel and Elena walk along the Haight this evening. They are reasonably close to Caritas, Angel having unconsciously been walking that way out of habit.

Elena Gilbert puts a finger to the tip of her nose, "All the above. But mostly I just see red every time I remember what he told me for why he tricked Steffan the way he did." She rubs at her nose bridge. "New topic. And I hope Kat finds him and puts him in the ground for good." She happily moves on about Cordy and Angel's friends. "Good. You're a nice guy Angel but you kind of are horrible in the PR department. Not your best suit. Speaking of suits, do you even own one?" She's mostly just walking with Angel to wherever.

From around the corner of one of the buildings, Eva makes an appearance. She's dressed in a black tank top with a black long-sleeve shirt over it and a pair of black jeans. Her hair is tied into a ponytail with a black clip holding it in place and her messenger bag is missing. She's clearly going for the 'ninja' look tonight and seems to be carefully looking from building to building, back and forth, searching. She hasn't spotted Angel and Elena then, and actually stops to peer down an alleyway before moving on.

Angel notices Eva, though. Speak of the Slayer, and she shall appear! ...Part of him wonders if that'll happen if he speaks of a certain OTHER Slayer he's been dying to see. In the meantime, though..."Hey Eva!" He waves her over. Particularly since it looks like she's pesudo patrolling before it's really okay for her to do so.

Elena Gilbert notes the outfit and look and has to think, is that the normal attired for a prowl. "Is she is doing what you were doing when I found you?" Then waves toward the Slayer, "Hey Eva. I was hoping to see you soon."

As she hears her name called out, Eva looks up with a deer-in-the-headlights maneuver. "Oh, hi Angel, hi Elena" she says with a somewhat guilty look on her face. Her eyes are darting everywhere at once, but after a few minutes she seems to calm down. "Sorry, but after the other evening I just don't know when he'll show up. Or where he'll be. I need to get the jump on him this time, or he'll just run away again." She's speaking in a rush of jumbled words and still looking rather excited. "Angel, I've been meaning to talk to you but I thought maybe I would have more to tell you if I could just find him again."

Angel says, "I'm right here. We might want to go into Caritas if we're going to sit down and talk. Nothing'll bother us in there." He points at the establishment off not so far away. "Also, Eva, you haven't been cleared for patrolling yet. We need to get you a little more trained before you go out there by yourself. At least to where Dawn is."

Elena Gilbert's eyes go to Eva's wrist and she smiels when she spies what is there. A bit relieved to say the least. "I know your pain, the other half of that troubled pair is my boyfriend." So she literally knows what it feels like. Only Elena had been with Steffan for a year first. "Trust me, they can hear you coming and won't let you find them if they don't want it." She looks to where Angel points, "oh the place that Kat blew up in. Yeah we can talk."

Eva gives Angel a perplexed look. "Patrolling? Who's patrolling? I'm not ready to fight vampires. Not real ones, anyways. I'm talking about Mikhail," Eva says with a nod to Elena. "She gets it, they're sneaky. But I think he's distracted. I ran into him here, a few nights ago, and he didn't notice me at first. I actually almost got away. But I'm glad he caught up to me."

Eva holds her thumb and forefinger an inch apart in front of her face. "This close. I was so close, I just know it. I could hear it in his voice, I could see it on his face. I almost pissed him off. I think. Maybe." She gives a one-shouldered shrug and admits "Well I definitely got more of a rise out of him this time than last time. But he ran away." She snaps the two fingers in front of her face. "Just like that, he was gone. I didn't even get a chance for Round 2." She heads in the direction Angel is guiding her, however. She's never been to Caritas, but if Angel says it's a safe place to talk then it must be.

===Caritas===

The lights are on, illuminating the area.

This could almost pass for any quirky neighborhood karaoke bar, except that most of the patrons are visibly non-human. Demons, vampires, werewolves, and all manner of folk seem to gather here, hidden from prying eyes by a layer of glamours and protection spells. Perhaps it's the niche clientele that assures such a steady crowd. Most nights, it's got just about the right number of people to make things friendly but still comfortable. It's decorated in splashes of silver and purple, and the decor of the place feels like the grandchild of mod-deco, punched up here and there with chintzy theatrical flair.

Subtly varied spot lighting creates just the right mix of tables where one can be seen or not seen, with a mix of small tables in the center and quiet booths along the edges of the room. A stage at the back features a high-end karaoke setup, the backdrop featuring a silver curtain that can be drawn aside to feature a full cinematic projection screen. Along one wall, the bar is stocked with everything from high-octane cocktails to fruit smoothies. Notably, they check IDs very diligently when drinks are purchased, as this is an all-ages place -- and they cut anyone off who hits the sauce too hard. For that, they'll tell you, go down the street to the Bear and Staff Pub.

Outside, it's overcast and warm.

Once inside, Angel leads the ladies to a reasonably secluded table off to one side. The waiters here know Angel well, and get him a covered mug without even bothering to ask. Apparently he's got some kind of arrangement with Lorne for that kind of thing. "They won't serve you two alcohol, but you can get whatever else you want."

Elena Gilbert offers Eva a quick hug when they get close and into the private area. "I'm just glad he hasn't hurt you physically, or tried too." When they walk into the club she doesn't like how some look at her. Likely they think she is Katherine, if they know her at all. She shifts her body langauge to emulate her twin a bit more and walks with confidence for the booth with Angel and the Slayer. Feeling some may be watching her still, "I'll drink what I want, Angel." Looking to Eva, "Just be careful and if you see Stefan text me, okay?"

As Eva takes a seat with Angel and Elena, she orders herself a water. "Not a fan of alcohol, doubt I'll drink it evne when I'm legal." Eva nods to Elena. "Definitely, I will. But I was thinking." She looks between the two, then says in a quieter voice "You said that even if Mikhail snaps out of it all Stefan would have to do, is to try and use the bond again to undo it. Would he have to be near Mikhail for that?"

Angel said, "Well, when he undid his humanity the last time, all he had to do was yell from the front door of the hotel. So anywhere within vocal range is enough to do it." Still, he notices how Elena shifts her pose and demeanor. It really is top quality acting, even if he knows for sure which twin that is. "Have you considered theatre? You're good at that." He declines to use her name, because that would ruin Elena's bid for a drink since that's what she seems to want.

Elena Gilbert shakes her head, "I don't think voice has to do it. I think any line of communication could maybe do it." She is keeping the attitude even if her voice is staying soft so only they hear it. "I plan to help and get Staffan back of course. Assuming Mik doesn't break him out again." She smiles some at the theater comment, "I have a lot of practice in watching my subject matter. It comes in handy for us both, keep each other safe." She orders herself something that LOOKS like a mix drink that she knows Katherine would drink, just a virgin one. "My question is, how are you handling this all Eva? Can I do anything for you?"

Eva seems to think something over carefully. "I... I don't know, Elena. Honestly. It was bad enough when I left. Now I come back, I really didn't think it could get any worse, but somehow it has." She lets out a long sigh and asks "Would Stefan seek Mikhail out for any reason? I don't know how these bond things work, you know. I'm just curious. Because even if by some miracle I can snap him out of it once, I really don't think it will work twice." There's a lot of gears turning in her head. Her words are slow and precise, almost as if she's trying to put a puzzle together and the pieces aren't all there.

"The real answer is to snap Stefan out of it. Once he's taken care of, we could work on Mikhail too, if that's what you want." Angel sighs a moment. "I was hesitant to say this, because it feels completely hypocritical of me, considering..." Pause. "But I'm not sure, even if he goes back to the way he was, that it's all that healthy for you to continue seeing him."

Elena Gilbert mentally notes to tell Eva about Katherine. But for now just nods slowly. "I think that is for the best. Because there were problems before the house of cards fell. From what I heard, not trying to rub salt in the wound. And I agree," looking to Angel. "We need to get Stefan first and if anything use him as bait for Mik." She taps a finger on the table in thought, still copying her twin's manerisms. "Also there's Stefan's brother to remember about. He may just try to stake Mik. He is... difficult to predict."

Eva lays her hands on the table, palm-down and drops her head to rest on top of them. "I know," she says softly. "He's more than a little broken. But... but you don't know what I know, now. What he showed me. It doesn't add up, at all. None of it makes sense. He's even more a mystery now to me than he was before." She stares at Angel, then says "So we need to find Stefan and get him to Elena. And keep Mikhail away so that we don't have an encore of what happened last time." She stares at the table in front of her. "How do you find a vampire that doesn't want to be found? Magic?"

<Watch> Cordelia Chase has connected.

Angel's seen that before. The need of a young lady to puzzle out the mystery that is a man. He also knows he's very unlikely to be able to get between the need to see that puzzle solved. "It's your call, Eva. Though Elena's right about Damon, he's not exactly the order following type. Even if you want him spared, he isn't likely to care." As for finding Stefan. "We found him the last time when my seers noticed his trail of murders as a Vision. I won't know where he is till we get another Vision about it."

Adam Milligan has connected.

Adam Milligan exits toward: Haight.

Adam Milligan has left.

Elena Gilbert shakes her head. "That's just a lure, the mystery. It's how they real you in, I know it got me too." She takes a slow breath and drink of her glass. "Magic isn't so reliable. Especially given MIk's ivolvement. I think the way we'll have to work this out the old fashioned way. Damon may be our best asset to finding Stefan. I just wish Lexi was alive. She's the one that first started how to save Stefan back when." Lips purse together in annoyance. Hearing about Stefa killing makes her tense a bit more. "I hate this whole situation."

Eva frowns, thinking something over. "It's not Mikhail's fault. But you're right, I guess. Even if it isn't his fault, that doesn't mean I'm going to be able to fix him. He's... there's so much pain. So much hurt. I don't think anyone realizes it. And maybe there isn't anything I can do, but..." She looks up at Elena and her eyes are full of emotion. "I have to try. You are. I'm not going to pretend what I'm fighting for is the same as what you have. But it's... it's all I know. I have to at least try. Maybe it's pointless, but if I don't I will spend the rest of my life asking myself 'What if?' and I just can't do that to myself." She sits up a little straighter. "I don't know anything about Stefan's brother. You think he will help?"

Angel looks down a little, "...I used the mystery early on too. In some ways, it'll always be there, because there's so much in a history as long as mine I couldn't share it all if I wanted to. And given what my alterego's done, I wouldn't want to try." Angelus, sadistic psychopath. Not really anything he wants to share with someone he loves. "But I at least try to be honest about the present, even if much of the past is best left buried." Hmmm. "I can't fault you for that Eva. It's that kind of will that had Buffy insisting I be pulled out of the Darkness. But...redemption is something special. It might not be for everyone."

Elena Gilbert cracks and shows some of her other side, "It is his fault Eva. He tricked Stefan in turning him into a vampire. Because being a human as too bring or so boring or dull. He started that chain of events that led to Stefan being overcome by his emotions and having to escape them. And knowing that Mik had magic already just makes that reason all the worse. To choose to be a vampire over a human for that reason is to choose a life of hunting and hurting people. He did tha before his humanity was turned on. When we were shopping you told me he was already using his ability to compel for fun and in ways that made you feel bad." She takes a slow breath. "Damon will help if it sounds fun or give him what he wants. He will not be like Faith or anyone else in helping us on this. But I do know that you ether have to chose to let it go and live with it, or you have to fight for him but be ready that he may be gone for good already." She is having to take her own advice for Stefan on this point. She downs her drink then wishing it wasn't so virgin now.

Eva looks at Elena and nods, but there's a bizarre expression on her face. "That's the thing, Elena... I know Mikhail wanted to be a vampire." She hesitates and adds "And I'm sorry for his contribution in destabilizing Stefan. I'm truly sorry. This is not how I wanted any of this to go. But I think I may be starting to understand now why he did it." She pauses, not sure how much she should reveal. "I don't know enough about Mikhail's past to be sure, but there's more to it than that. I hate my life sometimes, but I'd never want to be a vampire. So why did he?" She's chewing on her lower lip. "Angel, Mikhail showed me a piece of his past. Parts of it don't make sense. I'm still trying to figure them out. But I'm convinced there's a missing piece of the puzzle. I just don't know how I'm going to get him to give me the rest so I can figure out just how broken he is and why."

Angel replied, "Even I'm not sure just how old Mikhail really is. I'm pretty sure he's got several centuries on him, even if he lost most of the strength of age when he became a vampire all over again. You could be missing not just one piece...but dozens, or even hundreds. No matter how deep you go, there'll always be more layers." Pause. "So no matter how hard you reach, he's got to reach back on his own."

Elena Gilbert looks sadly at Eva. "If we JUST focus on the past and what could be, we're gonna end up dead and duped everytime. If we are going to ignore the past bads to work for what is right, we have to ignore the past goods to see the bad that is in front of us. Every day we're out their body count will grow. I want my Stefan back too. But I have to realize who he is now to survive." She doesn't really care about Mik's past personally. "If Mik was older, then he should know how to get done what he wanted without tricking or hurting everyone he claims to care about around him. All I have seen is an immature selfish child who's willing to hurt whomeverl to get what he wants. And there are now many dead for it." She clearly is writting MIk off the longer the conversation goes on.

Eva doesn't argue with either of them, just letting out a sigh. "Why me? I was so happy with my music and my track and my school. I mean, I'm happy now as well but everything is so much more complicated. Layers and layers of more complicated than when you're just a teenager in high school." She frowns, then shrugs at Elena's words. "I haven't walked in his shoes. I don't know what made him the way he is. He was right, though, in what he said. I don't know him. I never did. I knew what I thought he could be, what I wanted him to be, but not him. Maybe its my fault for not trying to find out before I pushed him away." She takes a sip of her water. "Either way, there's nothing I can do about it for now. No sense driving myself nuts over it." She looks troubled, though.

Angel...actually empathizes with Eva. "I know how that feels. Wanting someone to change to suit your needs...is a recipe for disaster. I made that mistake once, recently. I have since learned to not do that." Elena knows whereof, and who, he's talking about, since she was sitting there watching him make that particular error. "Change comes from within. You can't make someone different."

Elena Gilbert looks at her empty glass and says, "Be glad you have a life that you can call your own Eva. Even if it hurts and there are problems. It could be worse." But before she shows any of her pain on her face she tries to hides it quickly. Eyes firm as she states to Eva, "NONE of this is your fault, and if he says that it's just him being a manipulaive predator going after your heart. These are his choices and his actions. Mostly they happened before you met him. They aren't your fault." She looks to Angel and then the area around them. "Maybe you two should head out. I think I'm about to be unpleasant company."

Eva nods in agreement with Angel. To Elena, she says "I know I'm not responsible for what he's done. What he did. What he's doing. But I think in a way he resents me because he thinks I was trying to change him. He keeps bringing it up. I just feel... maybe if I had acted differently, been more understanding or something. He wouldn't have walked off and I wouldn't have been gone for a month and who knows, maybe I could have snapped him out of it after all." She shakes her head and gets up as Elena suggests they take off. "I'm sorry if I put you in a bad mood. Really. I'm just a little lost, dunno what to do. Never thought I'd find myself in this kind of mess, not in a million years." As she reaches out to rest a hand on Elena's shoulder, she squeezes gently before letting go. "It was good seeing you again. We need to go shopping again soon, get our minds off everything. I hear Cordelia at the hotel loves to. Maybe we can go with her." Eva's lips curl up into a faint smile as she mentions the fun pastime.

Angel frowns for a minute. "I'm not sure it's a great idea for me to let either of you run off by yourselves. You're both being targeted by vampires gone off the deep end...and you, Elena, have a friend who's going to give me a hell of an earful if anything even comes close to happening to you." A friend? Well, purposeful vagueness. "And Eva, I need to finish your training before we have you patrolling...for him or anyone else. Alright? I'll let you know when you're ready to face the dangers out there."

Elena Gilbert smiles at Eva at the touch, "It wasn't you. It is just my own things and past. We all keep things private and don't share for the chocies we make in life." Or Unlife in Angel's case. She turns when Angel tries to be noble and gives him a look she has picked up from Katherine of 'do not dare!' in attitude. "Angel," saying his name in warning. "I am -not- one of your girls. I am not your responcibility. And I proved I am not helpless tonight. Let me worry about Katherine. I was out on my own before I bumpped into you, and unless you blab or something she won't even know." Her feelings clear. She doesn't want preotection or to be coddled like a child. Not even the slightest.

Eva nods, looking suitably chagrined. "Sorry. I really wasn't patrolling... just thought I might find him again and take another crack at pissing him off. But I can see how that might not be the smartest idea. Now." She brushes some stray locks out of her face as she pulls out her phone. "I'll have Felix pick me up in the van, if you're worried. I'll just hang out near the entrance until he shows. He's gotten better about not asking questions since things got weird right before I left on vacation. He's so glad to have me back, I think he's just pretending anything out of the ordinary is normal." She smirks slightly at the thought. The conversation between Angel and Elena gets a curious look, but she doesn't pry. "Alright then, night." And with that she wanders over, phone in hand, to sit near the door.

Angel keeps running into all these girls who don't want any protection. Well, Eva in the van is alright, when it pulls up and Felix is driving. Not completely safe, but better then walking. When Elena chides him for being protective, he only says, "You should see the look Faith gives me when I try that with her." Self effacing, at this point. But his way of saying he's not singling Elena out, either.

Elena Gilbert shakes her head. "You try that crap on Faith? She can throw a grown man through a wall. You ARE aware that it is the 21st cetury not the 17th right?" Just a bit in awe that Angel seems so out of touch on a basi concept. She looks around the room and leans in close and points out in the softest whisper she can, "You wouldn't offer to protect Katherine and the fewere people that know about she and I the better. So please Angel. For the eleventh time. STOP" And she wishes she has Kat's strength to sell a crushing grip on the leg or something but just has settle for the whisper and harsh look.

Now he understands what's pissing Elena off so much. Offers of protection ruin the charade. That's what's protecting her from all the nasty things...the 50 percent chance that the nasty things will run into the wrong twin and get their throats ripped out. "...I have a flip phone." Speaking of how not with it he is, at least with technology. He lowers his voice to match. "But I didn't understand why it bothered you till now."

Elena Gilbert can't have lapses of where she is and what is around her. Not with how she lives now. "Well now you do. So," she lifts one brow to make sure the matter is done. "And a flip phone that still works? You really should learn to keep with the times Angel. Technology is where it is at. Makes things easier and harder at once." Her eyes carefully sweep the crowd and she notices one demon watching the 'vampires' a bit too intently and just gives him her best Katherine glare. "Enjoy your Rabbit Angel. I'm going out for something fresher and with more life in it." Raising her voice as she stands and makes ready to stride imperiously for the door. This is clearly not the place for her to visit often. Too risky. She will have to make a note to try and sing for Lourne though.

Angel just nods once, and lets her go. His 'rabbit' indeed. The only things he's ever had with 'more life in them' have been under the influence of his dark alterego...or when he needed to be healed of something very dangerous. Still it was time for him to head back. The mission would continue. Dusting that vamp gang was one of dozens roaming the city...
