Giles surprises Dawn on her patrol to inform her he's her new Watcher.

July 1st, 2016
Greenvale Park - Beacon Hills

It's after dark, and the park is pretty much empty, except for the occasional teenager. One of those teenagers is Dawn, who walks along the jogging path casually, as if she's out for a stroll. At least, that's the image she's trying to portray. She's still new enough at this that she's not a very good actor yet. But, she does seem to keep her eye on the other teenagers in the park pretty well.

"Cemeteries first. Cemeteries are always first."

That should be a voice that is very recognizable. Where it comes from is quite easy to find as there's a fairly tall and older gentleman standing beneath one of the lights in the park. He's wiping off his glasses and putting them back on his face by the time his words are finished and even allows a very small smile to tug at his lips as he gives a nod towards Dawn.

Initially jumping at the voice, Dawn spins around, but then relaxes and smiles, "Mr. Giles! Hi!" She is holding a stake, it can be seen now, though she stuffs the end of it into a pocket now, for the moment. "This town has, like, no cemeteries, compared to Sunnydale. But... I'll try to remember that tomorrow," she admits.

"As I've seen. Still, we should always do a sweep at the beginning and at the end of patrols." Giles steps away from the light and over to meet Dawn and straightens out his glasses on his face. "We will also need to establish a training schedule as soon as possible. You should be faster on the draw." Seems like Giles is immediately down to business even though he hasn't officially announced what he's doing here.

"I've been doing some training with Angel, when mom has time to drive me to San Francisco, but mostly he's been teaching me how to punch things harder, and swing a sword," Dawn says, sounding generally cheerful. Then, however, she grows a little more excited, "Wait, does this mean you'll be my Watcher?"

"Angel." It's hard to tell how Giles is saying that name but it certainly isn't anything that should be considered 'happy'. It's more of just a repeating of something that must be said for reasons that shouldn't be relived. Not at this moment. "Yes, well, there's little need to continue visiting Angel for lessons as I will, as you've said, be taking over your training as your Watcher." He leaves out the part where he's also going to be using this to keep a a protective eye on Kid Sister Slayer.

Dawn just beams, and says, "So cool!" She almost bounces as she turns to start walking with Giles, taking up the patrol again as they talk. "Does this mean you'll be the librarian at my school, too, when it starts?" Then, she adds, "Oh, there's a werewolf pack in town. Well, some of them are werewolves, it's sort of like the Scoobies. Most of them go to the high school too."

"Ah, as much as I'd love to go through /that/ again, I'm afraid I have any other occupation at all." Giles reaches out to place a hand on the shoulder of the bouncy one. "I know all about the werewolf pack. I would stick close to them but remember your duties as a Slayer. We'll do everything we can to get you ready for what lies ahead. It's going to be interesting."
